Westport Lake Community Volunteers (WLCV) have a regular working party on the 2nd Friday of each Month. Our work through the year includes tasks such as: coppicing, path repair, removal of invasive species (mainly Himalayan Balsam), litter picking, bench painting, reed bed planting, fencing, planting, etc,… No special skills are required and you will be shown how to use any hand tools as necessary.
Westport Lake is owned and managed by Stoke City Council. The volunteer group work with the council rangers to maintain and improve the area and we are affiliated to the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. The Trust supports us with tools, access to their classroom, first aid training and insurance.
We meet at 9:30 (on the 2nd Friday of each month) and normally finish around 12:30. Sometimes we’ll work in the afternoon. You can leave at any time, but you need to be available at the start.
You will need suitable clothing and footwear as it can be wet and muddy.
We aim for a maximum of 12 on any working party so you will need to book.
